The Kids Are Alright

Remember the movie Kids? People used to tell me that I looked like the girl in it who had short blond hair.
I don't remember the movie very well. But I remember when it came out. I remember putting it on to watch at a friend's house. I remember what I was wearing, what he was wearing, the adventures we went on that day. I remember that summer, playing guitars in the park, running around free, dancing in the sunshine.

A Little Update - and new shoes

I am here safe and sound. Instead of going into too many details, how about I just show you a few pics...

The face in the archway in my bedroom. Watching. Judging.
Park by my house. Thinking I may have to roll down the hill.
Green detox smoothie! Don't ask... don't judge. My new Vans. They were an absolute necessity to buy. I swear.

Vintage Covered Dreams

Hello. I am typing this from my handy dandy new bright red computer. Tomorrow I move to San Francisco... um yeah, it's crazy. Today I played with my niece, realized being a mom is mucho exhausting and put off packing because that would be pure craziness. And for now I am off to drink wine, miss my friends and cuddle with my sister. On an amazing note, Nana showed up yesterday with vintage Chanel, Dior and a Halsten rain coat for me. I died. The apple definitely doesn't fall far.

good night,
me

Sail Away

Will I Keep the Blog?

So a lot of people have been asking me if I am going to keep this blog after I move to San Francisco. And the truth is that I don't know. I am so attached to DekanDC that I would never change the name, and it seems a bit off to write under the name when I am not in DC anymore (sniff sniff). In all honesty, I started the blog before I moved to Italy never thinking it would stick this long. And then I kept it because it was nice to still have a hand in fashion somehow. But now that I am working in fashion, do I still want to blog about it on the side? Then I get sappy and think how blogging sort of keeps me in touch with everyone who is far away in some crazy sense. And it makes me sad to stop.
I guess I will just have to wait and see...

ps
this pic makes so happy!

Powder

My sister and I have a joke that a ghost named Powder lives in her basement... you know, like the guy from the movie Powder. Well, over the weekend my poor sis got attacked by a swarm of bees. So today I sent her an email that said:
"Powder felt so badly that you got attacked by bees that he went out and got himself attacked too..."

Then I attached this picture.
I'm going to hell one day.

News of the day - Snooki Style

"Meanwhile, in a twisted anti-branding campaign, Snooki has a closet full of designer bags, like the one in this picture -- and the gifts are not from the actual purse makers, but their competitors, according to a report. Bag makers are allegedly giving their competition's products to Snooki so she brings a bad rep to that label."

The moon was too bright

Better put sunblock on your eyes

Because this is too sexy not to burn them.

Daily Lust

I was just flipping through some photos from the Nakkna show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm. In all honestly, I was only half paying attention, until my eyes caught this dress. Then I stared. And stared some more. And now I want it. A lot.

The end.

Oh What a Week

Best. Week. Ever. Literally. My best friend got engaged. Then she turned 30 and we celebrated at Acqua al 2. Then I found out that after months of interviewing I got my dream job at a great retailer. Did I mention they are in San Francisco? Or that I am moving in 3 weeks?

But before I even begin to tackle any of those details, I have a party on a sailboat to prepare for. Another celebration for the girl who managed to leave her 20's and get a ring on it all in a few days. Can't wait!

happy covered kisses,
me

Day 30: I'm thankful for it all!

That's it... 30 days of what I am thankful for. Some days it was a little more tough to put into words what I was thankful for. Other days it was pretty easy (coffee, gelato). But most of all I am just thankful for my life... because on a scale of one to 10 it is AWESOME!

kisses,
me

I Love You Even Though We'd Never Work Out

One of the best things about fashion is when you are able to look at something and appreciate it, even though it isn't something that's your own personal style. That happens to me a lot. I see something in a collection (Prada) and feel drawn to it to the point I can't stop looking. But inside I know I'd never wear it.

Take this shoe for example... It's shiney and sexy and bold in all best ways. But it's just not me.

Day 23: I'm thankful for my grandparents

You can't see it well in this picture (well, that is sort of the point of a white tattoo), but a few months ago I got my Papa's signature tattooed on my wrist. It's from one of my mom's old report cards from when she was just a wee-bitty little girl. His last name, Ondash, is also my middle name. I'm lucky enough to have amazing memories of all of my grandparents... even though not all of them are alive today. (Only Nana -- but she has enough spunk for everyone!)

I hope my kids grow up with the same silly memories too -- catching grandpa on the bidet, Nana and her crazy wigs, grandma insisting we call the basement the "great room', Papa with his big earphones on listening to the game. You know, in 20 years when I am ready to have kids.

Roll Call

So many blogs out there. Here are a few of my favs... which I usually read in the morning with my coffee and green smoothie. (in no order of importance. I can't play favorites, it wouldn't be right)
  1. Model Burnbook - she's a model. she's dark, sarcastic and spot-on.
  2. Catalog Living - I giggle out loud.
  3. Displaced Bones - lots of black and white pictures of fashion.
  4. The Cosmic Cowgirl - food. yummy food. I'm hungry.
  5. One Good Thing - I cry. Alot. Puts it all in perspective.
And now I need to go... the Jersey Shore cast is on The Today Show. GTL.

Don't forget to tell me what your favs are!

Day 18: I'm thankful for the Jersey Shore premiere tonight

Day 17: I'm thankful for little brothers

who are 21 years younger and make you automatically turn into an 8 year old when you are around them. And can we talk about the red hair... I die!

Day 16: I'm thankful for big sisters...

... that move away and give you lots of nice furniture. And their skinny clothes when they get big and preggo. And their golden egg purse. And play the shoulder game. And their Michael Kors watch. (ok, not really, but thought I'd throw that one in just in case).
