The September Issue

For months the buzz in the air has been all about The September Issue, the Vogue/Anna documentary. It's been screened all over and finally opens in DC in September. My poor, dear friends. You could quiz them and reluctantly they would be able to tell you why the September issue of a magazine is so important. They don't ask to know these things. I just tell them anyway.

And inevitably some poor soul is going to be dragged along to see it with me (I am looking at you). I plan to bribe with sushi first (you know you like sushi).
Consider yourself warned!

Prettiest Lashes in Town

My She Uemera eyelash curler finally arrived... from Japan. Yes, I said Japan. It took over a month to get here. Why didn't I just go to Sephora like a normal girl and buy it there? Because I like my sh*t authentic. That's just how I roll.

Morning Talks

This morning I was talking to a friend who a few years ago moved from DC to San Fran. In our early 20's we were attached at the hip. I taught her how to grocery shop, she taught me how to wear black eyeliner. I taught her how to prepare her lunch for work, she convinced me to get rid of the midwestern poof in my hair. We both worked a second job together, laughed together, cried together, and abused our credit cards together. Then we just sort of lost touch. Needed a break. Moved on.

And once every month or so when we email it is like no time has passed. She still is my go-to for makeup. I still try to convince her to embrace her inner domestic goddess. We're still us, just a little more grown-up.

Mistaken Identity

Yesterday I went to West Elm to buy a new rug for my front door. I just needed a small one to fit into the space where the door opens and you step inside. Voila! I found the perfect one, in the perfect color and the perfect size. Plus it was soft and cozy on my feet. And as I was checking out, feeling rather proud of my accomplishment, the salesman behind the counter looked at me and said, "Oh, I just love this bathmat... isn't it great!"

I googled it. He's right, it's a bathmat. Whatever... I am still putting it by my front door.

Fall Thoughts

This morning when I was getting ready for work I gazed longingly up at my shelf of sweaters and thought how I can't wait to wear them again, with skinny jeans and high boots that reach the knee and beyond. And scarves that wrap around for miles and knit hats that disguise the mess of hair underneath. I am ready for chilly nights that have me diving under the covers and windy mornings that go perfect with a hot take away chai.

And once I have all of this I will want hot hot summer days that call for little swimsuits and barbeques by the pool. That's just how life is.

Love at the Dog Park

Now, I am not usually a fan of white dogs. They get too dirty and can look to froufrou and tend to remind me of something that would fit into a purse and have bows in their hair. But not this little love muffin... this guy had me at hello. We met at the dog park and I immediately scooped him up into my lap where he sat content for what felt like forever (it was really only minutes). His owner did not bat an eye or seem to care much and it took all of my will power to not make a mad dash for the car, put my foot on the gas and speed away with the pup at my side. Sadly, I had to let him go. But we will always have this picture... and the memory of that sweet sweet day at the park.

Gap's 1969 Jeans Are Here

This week Gap released their 1969 jeans. They hired Patrick Robinson, who spent a year and a half designing them. My dear friend over at Modern Destiny has been talking these up for weeks. He's never wrong. Perfect fit, perfect styles, perfect, perfect, perfect. Listen, I know Gap sort of lost any street cred for jeans a long time ago. But these are amazing. Trust.

A Day

After just a really great past few days, yesterday sort of turned to sh*t. I don't do anxiety attacks well. Thankfully I got to have a post work coffee with a friend who let me be cranky and cry and still loves me regardless. Then I went home and slept, slept some more and tried to crawl out of that place in my head where I got lost.

This morning I woke up determined to feel oh so fine. So I slipped on my grandma's pearls and ruby ring. That with some coffee should def do the trick.

After just a really great past few days, yesterday ended up being pretty sucky. So this morning

If Cuteness Was a Job...

this little peanut would be bringing home the rent.
The tutu, the giant smile, the bald head.
I keep telling you... this is the future of fashion.
