McQueen Private Funeral Held Today

Today a private funeral (family only) is being held in London in honor of Alexander McQueen.
Gucici Group said that a public memorial will happen later on this year, since right now their main focus is the upcoming Paris show. I hate when the ugly side of fashion shows its head (looking at you Gucci Group).

In the meantime, I am sure there are lots who will be remembering him today... whether or not Paris fashion week is right around the corner.

Sad bear.

Closings and Openings in Metro Center

While West Elm in Metro Center didn't seem to quite make it through the recession, there is good news for those of you who still like to pretend you are a tween and buy clothes made for girls half your age (yeah, that's me). Forever21 is going to open up in that space.

If I were you, I would drop what I was doing and dash right over to West Elm. Word has it that everything is on sale. Can someone get me a candle and a new throw while you are there?

Change

Spring is almost here and I am ready for a change. Either cropped blonde...
or long dark bob...
They are both edgy, but one is slightly more subtle and feels a bit more feminine. thoughts?

Tights Are Not Pants

At least that is what American Apparel is saying..

After a week of snow and rainboots, I tend to disagree.

No More Salty Boots

Another 10 inches today. Maybe one day we will be able to put the rubber snow boots away and pull our leather boots back out of the closet. And when you do, there will most definitely be stains on them from the salt they've been coating the sidewalks with. No worries... they're easy to remove.
  1. Check both boots for whole grains of salt that may be stuck to the outside.

  2. Create a mixture of two parts water and one part white vinegar.

  3. Dip a folded paper towel into the mixture and rub a small area of one boot. After the white stains have been rubbed out, switch to a clean, soft cloth and buff the area dry.

Mission Failed

In honor of the Super Bowl, I put on my new apron and took to the kitchen to bake jalapeno cheddar biscuits. An hour later, I had jalapeno cheddar hockey pucks. Major fail. So I sat down and sewed buttons on a sweater and felt better about myself. I know where my talents lie. As for the party... I will just bring wine.

Mad Libs, Fashion Edition

Fashionista is playing Pre-Fashion Week Mad Libs with their favorite designers. Betsey Johnson was her usual cute, quirky self, but so far Jeff Halmos (Shipley & Halmos) is my favorite. Daniel Vosovic is a close second, though I have to admit I've had a people crush on him since his PW days.

Who's on my dream Mad Libs list?
Kelly Cotrone
Alexander McQueen
Vicky Beckham
Thakoon

(but not in that order)

I Went In for a Juicer

I went into Macy's for a juicer... and I left with boots.

Oops.

Thoughts for Today

1. Who watched Kell on Earth last night? Her assistant may be the new (goth) Brad.

2. I went to buy a juicer and left with these boots.

3. Dear snow gods, please stop. And bring warm weather.

F*** the Recession

This poster just arrived in the mail. It's from the challenge where Chandalier Creative, Parsons The New School for Design and Interview Magazine teamed up and asked students to answer the question "What are you doing to f*** the recession?"

It will immediately be framed and hung up at home.
