Oh, What a Bag
Blame it on the Mall
I'm sorry, but I am totally amused by the scene that Rachel Ray's scarf in the latest Dunkin Donuts ad is causing. Yes, it looks just like a kaffiyeh. But, umm, so does the one that Abercrombi & Fitch is selling for $39.50 and the one at Target for $12.99. Oh, wait, and Hollister has one too!
It's not really Rachel's fault her stylist hit up the local mall to shop for the shoot. It's just her fault that she hired a budget stylist. Oopsie!

Quote of the Day
“You can buy a lot more with your money today than before,” said Joanna Eliza, a recent graduate from FIT, shopping on 34th Street on Tuesday. “Stores like H&M and Forever 21 make it more affordable for people who want to be fashionable, and that makes me feel really good.”
Ice cream makes me feel good... just in case you were wondering.

There's Gonna Be a Take-Down
I love fashion, but right now we're in a fight. For all of the things I've managed to do in my life, I can't figure out how to live in DC and work in fashion at the same time. I'm sure like any other time I get mad, I'll be over it in a couple of days.
But for today, she's a bitch (with great accessories).

Will They Call It "The Monuments"?
Word on the street is that MTV just may be testing out the waters and developing a Hills-like "reality" show based in Washington, D.C.
Had I not read this pre-coffee, I probably would have come up with some witty response about how they can head to Georgetown to cast for Spencer, but instead I am just wondering how they will ever find a character as compelling as Justin Bobby.

Quote of the Day
“When I grew up, I stopped wanting to be a princess. I always said I wanted to be a designer,” Kira explains. “Or do something that has to do with fashion.”

Fashion Rebellion
Another friend from my program just got hired as a buyer for Gucci... that makes 2. This morning I was telling my mom about it and she asked me if I was disappointed that it wasn't me.
My response... "Naw, I am not really Gucci material. They have all of these rules and want you to conform to their image. I would probably get annoyed, get in trouble and end up wearing Prada to work."
I do love a good scandal!

Knitta
I have to admit it, I have a total fascination with graffiti. So much that I actually have a folder solely dedicated to pictures of train graffiti. And I may have actually considered spending an inappropriate amount on a some graffiti art at Artomatic a few years back.
Well, there is a whole new crew of taggers out there. They are called the Knittas and are literally a tag crew of knitters who bomb the inner city with stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles to public monuments. Hold on, it gets better... the oldest member of their "crew" is 70. And their website is www.knittaplease.com.
Seriously, you can't make this stuff up! I wonder if they'd let me join...

Preach!
I have never made my feelings about leggings secret. And finally I have found a cause I can stand behind.

You Can Work It, But Can You Afford It?
The NY Times recently had an article about how the fashion label Parish was turning to troubled high schools to produce their fashion shows. Their reasoning is that it teaches students responsibility and teamwork. I sort of read it, flashed-back to my high school, and moved on.
Then today the Fashionista commented on the article. Which made me think a bit more. The whole thing sort of reminded me of interning for that fashion house in Italy. You totally bust your booty promoting something that you could never afford. It just leaves you wanting what you can't have. True, I did end up buying one of their super pricey, but super hot, dresses. But come on, am I really a good model of restraint?

I Like That In A Pilot
I love sunglasses. They are without a doubt my favorite accessory. But after losing my Gucci's in the ocean last summer, I only rock the cheapo's these days.
So here is my question -- why is it that aviators look so good on any guy? Even Tom Cruise looked (kind of) sexy in Top Gun. Seriously, think about it... I know for the rest of the day I will.

Splish Splash
I'm having an inner dilemma with rain boots. In theory I love them, especially old school Wellies. I even own a pair in army green, with flannel at the top. Sigh, so here is my problem. The second the first drop falls from the sky, girls race to their closets and pull out their bright J Crew or Target rain boots that are covered in hearts or stars or even little rubber duckies. I agree, they are totally functional. And there is something slightly amusing about jumping in puddles with duckies on your feet. But come on, just because they are cute doesn't mean they work with everything.
So as my gift to you on this rainy Tuesday, I have put together a rain boot check list..
So as my gift to you on this rainy Tuesday, I have put together a rain boot check list..
- rain boots with a short skirt and thick tights - cute
- rain boots with your baggy work pants scrunched at the top - not cute
- rain boots with skinny jeans and an over-sized men's sweater - cute
- rain boots with your sweatpants - not cute
- rain boots with a vintage dress and belt - cute
- rain boots with your pant suit or skirt suit for that matter - not cute
And guys... well just don't go there. Trust me on this one!
umbrella covered kisses,

Red and Delicious
Profile on U
Profile is the latest boutique to land on U Street.
When I first heard of the name I immediately thought of one of those clubs on K Street, like Park or Lima (except I secretly do heart Lima). And then when I read what she was carrying, I immediately thought of the people who go to those clubs.
Don't get me wrong, from what I have seen the clothes are cute, bright and fabulous. But selling Cavalli on U Street? Isn't that like if Weight Watchers were to sell ice cream cakes... it just kinda defeats the purpose.
(either way, I wish her great luck!)

Post Secret Meets Satorialist
Heavenly Delight
Some people like to physically go to the store before making a major purchase like a sofa or mattress. I prefer to go online, click my mouse around and be surprised a week later when the delivery men show up.
All I have to say is 'Oh my g-d is my plush pillow top bed is a bit of heaven."
From now on it is nap-time all the time!
