Making it Count

Every morning when I get dressed for work I look in the mirror and think to myself "Is this work appropriate?" Usually I could use one of my friends there to give me the ok, but they are at their own homes, often times probably wondering the same thing, so I am left to make my own decisions. Such is life as an adult, I guess. Usually I can make it pass by throwing on a cardigan, wrapping a scarf around my neck or adding my grandmother's pearls (most coveted possession right now). Sometimes I am just late and race out the door and figure I will throw caution to the wind and test my luck.

The thing is, I don't really separate work clothes from non-work clothes. They are all sort of interchangable when worn in the right context. Maybe that is why I don't have a closet bursting at the seams. I eliminate the clutter and make the most out of everything. Man, if only I applied that same logic to the rest of life. ha!

Hmmm....

Slow fashion week for NY Times, possibly? Either way, this article made me giggle. Careful, it could make you blush (I'm talking to you momushka).

Open Letter

Dear Cameron,
I am normally a big fan. I loved you in The Holiday. You seem quirky and silly and like you don't take yourself too seriously. Plus you once dated JT, which means that you probably got to see him in the shower... more than once. What I did not love was your appearance on John Stewart. You claimed that you ate a snickers right before the show and it made you all wacky. Is snickers the new code word for drugs?

just say no,
me

Oh Happy Day

The mood is light, the sun is shining, the weekend is almost here, and well... from a solid job to happy coworkers to awesome friends who make me laugh to the warm weather to other things that I don't dare share on this blog to the fact there's really no reason not to be in a good mood. Life is kicking ass today.

except the dress I wore to work may be a tad too short. scusi.

Pitti Uomo... My First

I remember my first Pitti Immagine event. It was Pitti Uomo, I was new in Italy and had just started fashion school. They told us that we would be attending a fashion fair, but I had no idea it was THE fashion fair. We raced home from class, drenched in sweat because Florence is impossibly hot in the summer and AC is nothing but a dream. After digging through closets and changing into the best we could do (black skirt, black top), we headed to the Fortezza.... via bus. That's how you roll when you are a student.

Two steps into Pitti Uomo and all I can say is that I felt like a total fish out of water. The fashion, the style, the simple way that Italians can make jeans and loafers look crisp, classic and intimidating as hell. With my eyes halfway out of my head, we walked around for hours soaking it all in, speaking in broken Italian and trying to blend in a much as possible.

And then we left, went home totally exhausted, peeled off our respectable outfits and plopped down with a bottle of wine and a block of cheese. Our eyes glazed over, our brains a bit dazed and our bags full of swag.

(total sidenote... Pitti Bimbo (the children's clothing fair) was way more silly and fun and the hello kitty tent had champagne drinks, ice cream and a dj.

Daily Lust

I want this dress. But I want it with the back completely cut out a la Hillary Swank's Oscar dress a few years ago. Can we make this happen?

Getting Bootylicious

I have made fun of Beyonce for years. Made inappropriate jokes. Very inappropriate jokes. But tonight I am off to NYC to get bootylicious with it. Yes, I am going to see Beyonce. And I am kinda excited. Since my studded wife beater and cut-off booty shorts didn't arrive in time (kidding, beyonce would totally mock me if I wore a studded wife beater. That is so 2002) I am sporting my satin shorts and a tee-shirt. I'll blend in like a chameleon. And as an accessory there will be a drink in my hand the entire time. Which I will only put down to do the single ladies hand dance that she does. Because let's be honest, that sh*t looks fun. Oh, and her hubby Jay Z better be there because he is the bomb.com.

gold covered kisses,
me

Florence Calling

Lately I have been missing Florence. Maybe it is the new gelato shop by my house that reminds me of my twice-daily sweet snack while I was abroad. Maybe it is the warm weather that has me missing riding my bike around the city (with heels on... that's how I roll). Maybe it is our sunday bbq's that remind me of late dinners of wine and pizza and cheese. Mmm... cheese.
Maybe it is the fact that I have been back for over a year, but it all seems like lifetimes ago.
Enough with the maybes.

I saw this picture (thanks Sartorialist) and knew exactly where it was taken. By the Duomo, across from one of our favorite pubs, around the corner from the Pinko shop and right by where the artists yell after you to draw your portrait.

Lucky bitch.

Definitely, Maybe

This week and I are not getting along. I have a sore throat that won't go away, work - well work has seen happier times, and it won't stop raining. I have locked my Wellies up and refuse to put them on. Because wearing them would be acknowledging the rain that refuses to go away. And like a whining kid, if you don't pay attention to it then it will eventually stop. Right?

Having spent a good deal of time on my couch with bad Bravo tv on in the background, I am now mildly obsessed with fake boobs. Ok, maybe obsessed is the wrong word. Enthralled? No, that's not right either. I don't like them. I would never want them. And at the same time I am slightly jealous of women that have them. And just to let you know... when my fever goes away and my sanity returns I will deny every saying any of this.

Denim Denim Denim

I like to run, especially when I have a destination. So today I peeled myself out from under the covers, threw on my shoes and ran to the Gap. I haven't been able to get their new boyfriend jeans out of my mind and wanted to try a pair out. I grabbed two pairs and brought them home. Final verdict... I feel frumpy. But they look so cute on everyone else. Time to call in the reserves for their opinion.

Did You Know...

1. that you are only supposed to wash your denim every 2-3 months
2. you should wash it inside out and with other denim
3. and you should wash it in woolite

neither did I. but that's how you keep the color and fit.

Drew over at Modern Destiny really does know it all.

Checking In

It's been a while since I've been here. Guess I have just been caught up, busy and doing other things. And debating how much longer I am going to keep this blog. It's been three years... that's a long time.

In the meantime... I ordered "This Little Piggy Went to Prada" for my niece and can't wait to send it to her. It's been sitting on my counter for too long. Must.get.to.post.office.

I also followed the advice of several people and mailed back the t-strap swim suit that I ordered. I thought it was cute. Apparently I was the only one.

kisses for friday,
me

Kids Being Kids

I haven't had much to write about as of late, but then I saw this sweet post over at Garance Dore and it gave me warm fuzzies on this humid tuesday morning. The first picture is literally too cute for words. Also, if you don't read Garance regularly, you should. She writes in a way that makes you want to meet her at a cafe in Paris, drink wine and then go skipping around the city. Seriously.
