Swishing Around

Today begins a weekend of festivities for the wedding of two rather fabulous friends. Last night, over wine and homemade falafel (I love when friends cook for me), we had a little impromptu runway show trying on dresses and swishing around. I sat on the sidelines and yelled out comments and insisted that I had the perfect jewelry for that dress and a great ring for that one. That is what I do... when it comes to accessorizing my own outfits I am too lazy and can't be bothered. I don't get the same thrill as seeing my ladies all dressed up and feeling pretty. I hold everything until the last minute and then just throw it all together and hope to g-d I look convincing enough that even if it doesn't match I can make it look like it was meant to be that way. Except the shoes... man do I have some killer shoes for this event!

Real Housewives of DC

Best news ever for a rainy Tuesday (which for the first few hours of the day I thought it was actually Monday). Bravo has decided to extend its Real Housewives franchise to include a DC edition. It will follow female power players in the DC area. I don't know who these women are, I don't know what these women do, but I do know that I will watch it like it's my job. Start popping the popcorn people, drama is on its way!

Coffee Talk

1. American Girl's just came out with a doll from the Lower East Side - pre-hipster days, of course

2. the forecast says rain, rain, rain - better pull out those wellies

3. Is buying this swimsuit worth having to justify those tan lines? (I'm going with a yes)

4. Tim Gunn is the newest comic book hero

Where Have All The Models Gone?

My new issue of Glamour just came in the mail. Now granted it isn't W or Vogue or Elle, but still it is a fashion magazine and I am confused. Miley Cyrus on the cover? Please show me her fashion resume, beyond cut-off jean shorts and Ugg boots so that I can understand why she is gracing the cover.

Coffee Talk

1. how someone can make sweatpants look so chic
2. that Laura, the kind of bitchy kind of endearing contestant from Project Runway, is getting her own reality show
3. will Eatonville at 14th and V be as good as its sibling Busboys and Poets... and as perpetually crowded

carry on now.

Raw Beauty

I own very little "modern" jewelry. My favorite pin is from my Nana, my most treasured ring is from my Grandma and I heart the necklace that friends bought me from a vintage fair in Italy. New jewelry lacks the depth, the stories, the memories that come attached to it. Plus, I love wearing something close to my heart that was once worn by someone, well, close to my heart.

Last weekend my auntie B loaned me my Grandma's pearls. I was so excited to wear them that I put them on for the plane ride home... with a tee shirt, sandals and jeans. Hey, aren't we always saying that people need to dress up more for travel? They have an amazing diamond broach that you can remove from the clasp and wear alone (which I am doing today so that the V in my neck isn't too low...). I'm sure Granny would approve.

New Blog Monday

I just heard about the blog The Unknown Hipster. So I had to take a peep. The drawings are my favorite, mostly because it's hard not to love anything done in crayon. But it is also very, very funny.

Monday By the Numbers

4 hours of sleep
3 meetings today
2 peppermint teas
1 new pair of Coach shoes

Hell Yeah - This Kid Kills It

Shows - Lots and Lots of Shows

This past week I have seen two totally great, and totally different, shows.

First, Fischerspooner at 930 Club. Think theatrical production with electronic music, ballerinas, mirrors and costume changes.

Next, Thermals at the Black Cat. Indie/Punk with plaid shirts, a rad chick guitarist and a Nirvana cover.

And now my concert schedule is empty and feeling a wee bit lonely.

Fashion Comes to Bethesda

In case you haven't heard... now you know. Bethesda. The next three days. Tons of big events. Christian Siriano from Project Runway will be there (his dj/photographer boyfriend keeps a great blog here). So will the founder of Blue Mercury (who I must thank a million times over for hiring Angelica) I am going to be out of town at the wedding of one very lovely cousin. So go, take pictures, let me know how it is. This is the most fashion to hit DC since... well just since.

Perfect Spring Color

Last week a friend came over to check out my new place and have some girl talk. Out of her bag she pulls two bottles of polish. One was OPI for Sephora in Metro Chic ($9). Described as 'dark smoke with a hint of purple', it is the perfect spring color. Consider me obsessed.

Littlest Dreams

When I was a little girl and dreamed of dating, it was all about pretty hair and shiny dresses and lipstick pinker than berries. Today it is all about comfy shirts, jeans cut just right, shoes that I can walk in, and lipstick redder than berries. But one thing that little girl dream forgot was that halfway through dinner that lipstick gets smeared and needs to be checked, reapplied and checked again. Sometimes the big girl forgets it too. And so truly, we never really grow up.

Gilt to Launch Cheaper Site

I love gilt. I love, love gilt. I love, love, love gilt. But sometimes I feel guilty spending money there. Looks like the people who run the site got the clue and now they are launching a new, offshoot site next month focusing on shoppers who spend $75-$300 per item. More gilt with less guilt... guilty!

Sova on H Street

I have one word for you - Sova. What does it mean? Well, I don't really know. But I do know that it is open on H Street, they serve up some yummy drinks and it is top on my list of bars to visit. Which means that is time to get off of your butt and go to H street... stat.

Confession - Celebrity Edition

In the past three days I have read three different articles about Tracy Anderson, Madonna and Gwyneth's (did I spell that right?) workout guru. Seriously, she was in my Elle, W and some other random mag I can't remember the name of.

Bottom line - I want her workout dvds. She talks about targeting smaller muscles and resculpting butts. After years of yoga and running, I could use a change. I may be slightly people crushing now.
