Bare Nails

Last year I wished for a bottle of deep blue nail polish. And once I was gifted with that perfect color, I wore it obsessively. The only problem is the chip-factor. When dark nails chip it is noticeable. And don't have the time (ie am too lazy) to constantly be repainting my nails.

Enter Dior. They have declared "nude" to be the color of the season and even created their own polish to celebrate called "Nude Chic". It's $19 and only available for a limited time... so you better stock up now. Your nails will thank you.

Birthday Part I

Tonight I:
walked in the rain
saw a rainbow
did yoga
wore my favorite tee
spent the last few hour of my 20's with 2 of my boys, laughing out loud and talking about things that should only be talked about after hours.

I'm 30... finally!

Lost Article of Makeup

I wrote this back in the 80's (fine, summer, but still...) and had completely forgotten about it. Thankfully the kids over at byt didn't. Anthony was fun and comical and had some good makeup tips. I still can't apply a straight line of eyeliner, but at least I know which brush to use.

Tie a Ribbon Around My Heart, Mariam Salat

As if we needed another reason to love gilt.com Marian Salat's jewelery is currently on sale through tomorrow. Her pieces are sunny and pretty and make me swoon to scoop them up and decorate myself. The sale makes the prices not bad at all... you know, if you are the type with any disposable income right now.

Prepare to ooh lala:

white resin sun ring
$54 (originally $108)

butterfly drop earrings
$135 (originally $348)

white resin cuff
$165 (originally $472)

There's a lot more on sale at Gilt, so go buy something. I promise not to be too jealous.

McQueen Underwhelms

I was oh-so excited for the Alexander McQueen line that he was doing for Target. But after seeing pics, it looks like something that would happen if American Apparel and Wal-Mart were to have a baby... in the 80's.

Here are the three best...

and now the three worst...

You can see the rest of the McQ line here.

Happy Friday lovies,

One Week Left of My 20's

Every year I always have a special birthday wish. But we all knows that wishes don't come true if you share them, so you've gotta have a back up plan. Mine includes....

a long strand of pearls

a sewing machine
a massage
new perfume
and another 30 years laughing with my friends!

Exciting Things

I have some fun little side projects coming up, including one more style-related tidbit for the Washingtonian, submitting a story on my best or worst Valentine's Day and re-styling the wardrobe of someone I have known for several years. Considering the sick thrill I get out of dressing people, this last one is going to be my favorite. But aside from candy hearts, I don't really get into Valentine's Day so finding a story is going to be tough. Anyone else have one I can use? Seriously...

Inauguration is Here

Inauguration weekend has landed and anyone in DC is either planning a party, going to a party or recovering from having too much fun at a party. Last night two friends threw an event at a local art gallery. Everyone looked pretty, we all got silly and there may have been a few pairs of rad shades floating around. See for yourself...

I bought these...
I was also tempted to buy these and these...

and if I was really saucy I would have bought these....

Free Makeup from Department Stores... yes FREE

I stole this from fashionista.com, but it's just too juicy not to pass along. Now, who loves you the most? I do, I do!

free kisses,
me

Because of a major lawsuit filed against major department stores in California in 2003 (it seems some of the big name stores were purposely holding back inventory to up the price of high end beauty products), everybody is getting paid back in a major way next week.

Starting January 20th, major stores like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s are being forced to give away $175 million worth of beauty products nationwide, for free, to anybody who walks into their stores.

Shoppers only get one item per cosmetic company, while supplies last - Think Chanel, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, etc.

Almost Famous

Yesterday I met Zac Posen's mother, who is also the COO of his company. His studio is one floor down from where I am working in nyc and she came up to visit one of the people here for our judging. If I was cool I'd try to act like it wasn't a big deal. But I'm not... so I will admit I totally geeked out.

Sunday Night

Sitting on the bed debating between going down to the gym or crawling under the covers and going to bed early. Then I caught a glimpse of the empty bag of m&ms next to me and my arss in the mirror on the wall and suddenly the gym made sense.

New York, I Love You

Few cities inspire me as much as New York. The people, food, style, energy... love it all!
Especially this little guy who kept me entertained during lunch today.
That said, I did get a chance to have a sneak peek at Theory's new Spring line yesterday. It is all bright, electric colors, stirrup pants and sequins. I am not into florescent yellows or pinks or anything. But if I had $325 to drop, it would have been on a short black sequined mini-skirt. Oh well, I still have the baby to keep me entertained!

Rock in Obama with Moby and 930 Club

Moby is playing a midnight dj set at the 930 club over inauguration weekend (that will go into the wee-hours of the morning). Tickets are available... but that is all I can tell you.

see you on the dancefloor!

The Beauty of Gilt

I honest to g-d can not remember if I blogged about my newest shopping obsession the Gilt Groupe. Gilt offers access to men’s, women’s and children’s fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Think Marc Jacobs $1900 jackets for $285. Real serious. Each sale lasts only 36 hours.

The only catch is that Gilt is an invitation-only deal. So email me if you want to start receiving Gilt's daily emails on great deals. Trust me, it's worth it!

*plus once you start inviting friends you can earn $25 credits*

Quote of the Day

"I feel like Bed, Bath & Beyond is like dying a slow suburban death. I'm not ready for it. I'd rather buy a station wagon."

*bonus points if you can guess which city-dweller said this*

Forever Young

When we were little we would spend hours playing with our cabbage patch dolls. Dressing them up, feeding them bottles and changing their teeney tiny diapers. As we got older, and in our pre-tween minds more sophisticated, we switched to barbie. Hours were spent decorating the perfect room for barbie, picking out the perfect hair style for her date with Ken and fighting over who got to wear the formal dress and who got to wear the mini-skirt.

Time moved on and we paid less attention to dolls and more attention to boys and school. Instead of decorating barbie's dreamhouse we were decorating our first apartment. And fake weddings turned into the real thing. But always, somehow, we were still kids.

And with new babies and new homes and new families, we will still always be kids. Just kids with better toys.

Today my sister finally had her little baby girl. Welcome to the family baby Elle... we've been waiting for you!

So Pretty It Hurts

If I could write like one person, it would be her.

Smoothie Sale

I just saw that Robek's is having a sale with 50% off everything. Half-priced smoothies... I have never heard of such a thing. When they said that times were tough they weren't joking.

Musical Chairs

I finally sat down tonight to update the music on my ipod. There are a handful of songs that I tend to listen to on a steady basis.... 9 Crimes, Ghost, Breath Me, Over and Over.
Each time I tried to remove them and add something new, I couldn't do it. They are like an old sweater - warm, comforting and familiar. So instead I put them into a new playlist and added some new Sasha, Beck and even a little David Bowie. We'll see what happens.

Never Say Never to Wet Leggings

I did it. I said I wouldn't do it. But I did.
I bought wet leggings.
Well not wet as much as shiny spandex. I tried them on and as soon as the guy in the store told me I had the perfect legs for them I was done. And his advice as I was walking out of the store...
"These are like a bathing suit. No dryer. No iron. They will melt."
The only thing melting is my heart, because I am in love with them.

A Plaid Type of Mood

In the 90's I loved plaid. We wore it unbuttoned over large white shirts to Green Day concerts.
Somewhere around 1996-1997 I quickly fell out of love with plaid and in love with flowey skirts and hippie shirts.
Today I am going to hunt down a plaid flannel dress. It only seems fitting in this cold, cold city.
