Cupcakes are the New Coffee

Prill, the newest sweet spot to hit Dupont, will be opening their doors in a few short weeks. They are all cupcakes, all the time.
As a Cake Love girl, they have some stiff competition. But let's be honest, anything covered in butter cream frosting is a winner.

Growing a Date

After years with the boys at Post Mass, there is little about their apartment that surprises me. Except this creature that I discovered on their counter last night.

"What is this?" I asked.
"Oh that, she is Peter's girlfriend."

And it all made sense again.

Question of the Day

What is your going out song?

So far, one person in my office answered "Jesse's Girl" and another answered "Sober" by Tool (great song btw). I am still torn on mine.

The Clutch for Men

Men's clutches have been showing up on the runway a lot lately. The one in the picture is a Ferragamo... and let's be honest, Italian men can totally pull the look off. But what about the rest of the world?

In the Night

Take me on a trip, I'd like to go someday
Take me to New York, I'd love to see LA
I really want to come kick it with you
You'll be my American boy

Spa Happy Hour

What better way to end the week than with a mani and martini... Immediately followed by a visit to my favorite hair guru. Weekend's off to a good start!

Gun Ban Lifted

Carrying a gun is never fashionable. It's dangerous.
Shame on you D.C.

District Line

Last night I noticed that The District Line is no longer on 18th Street. Did they fall victim to the curse of Adam's Morgan, where no boutique can seem to last longer than a year... or did they simply realize that people hit up the area for late night pizza, not forward thinking fashion, and move to a new spot? I really liked the little bit of the UK that they brought to our neighborhood. I need answers people!

This Morning By The Numbers

4 snoozes on the alarm
3 minutes of the news
2 outfit changes
1 text message
0 cups of coffee

Please Don't Stop the Music

Lately I have had a bit of an obsession with djs. This morning on my walk to work I think I finally rationalized why (aside from their obvious sex appeal). A dj is a style-maker -- they create trends, influence clothing, rock it out to their own style, and have the power to make hundreds of people get off the butts and shake it on the dance floor. Like I said... slight obsession.

Wrap Me Up

I always like to see how other people are wearing certain things, because it gives me new ideas on how to sport an old item.

Example: The other day I watched a woman in Starbucks wrap her scarf from front to back and then around again, instead on putting it on the back of her neck and wrapping it around. So simple, but such a fun little change.

Florence

The Satorialist just posted several photos from Florence. This one is my favorite and shows the exact reason I miss that city so much. The people aren't trendy -- they just have this natural style that is so hard to find. I wish more men in the States would embrace how fabulous a well-tailored suit, or even just pants for that matter, can be.

Movie Trivia

There is a scene in a movie where the leading lady hugs the man and passionately tells him, "... it's you. It was always you."

The damn line has been in my head all day, but I can't remember what movie it is from. Something tells me I probably blocked it out for a reason. Still, it's going to kill me until I figure it out.

Dior and Wine Don't Mix

I am not usually a fan of any heel that resembles a stripper shoe, but I kind of like these bright yellow Dior's. Don't they look like they would make walking really fun, like when you have had too much wine and everything is all bouncey? Wait, then how would it feel if you were wearing them and really did have too much wine? Ok, now I have even confused myself.

Conversations at the Office

coworker:
I met Spike Lee, you know

me: really?

coworker: yeah he spoke at Temple once

me: wait, you're Jewish?

coworker: umm, Temple University

me: ohhh... yeah, you can expect blond moments from me every once in awhile

Footing Solutions

Problem: finding comfy shoes you can walk to work in, without looking like a shmuck

Solution: Alloy's Serpent sandal -- colorful, comfy and still a little saucy (even if the serpent does creep me out a little)

Mind Games

In the morning, on my way to work, I play a little game in my head where I look at someone's outfit and figure out what I would have done differently. My mom said she does the same thing with the furniture she walks into a room. Usually I don't even notice I am doing it, until I put myself in check to make sure I am being creative and not catty.

This morning I caught some girl staring at me, and I am pretty sure she was doing the same thing. I really liked her style, so I am sort of wishing she had told me her suggestions.

Does It Need to Vibrate?

Don't get me wrong, vibrating is good. Vibrating cell phones, vibrating toothbrushes that do the work for you, those vibrating chairs at Brookstone - amazing!

But a vibrating mascara wand? Come on, I can barely put on mascara when I am hungover and my hands are shakey. You want me to pay to have this effect all the time?

Apparantly Estée Lauder does, because they just announced their battery-operated TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara. At $30 a tube, I am not sold. But if they want to send me one for free I am happy to test it out.

Still in Dog Mode

In keeping with my adoration of all things dog...
(ps.. I am totally thinking 30th birthday present, a lil pup of my own!)

By the Numbers

5 - the number of unreturned emails in my inbox
4 - the number of shoes under my desk
3 - the number of men in pink shirts on the metro
2 - the number of girls changing out of their flip flops in front of my office building
1- the number of minutes it took me to type this (ok, maybe 1.5)

Freshman Faux Pas

I burst out laughing this morning when I opened my box of Raisin Bran and found nothing but flakes. I was randomly reminded of when I was a freshman in college, and determined not to add an ounce to my 92 pound frame, I'd pick out all the raisins from my cereal bowl and only eat the flakes.

Apparantly I still pick out all of the raisins, but that is because they are yummy, and sweet and covered with sugar... and way more fun to eat than the bran part!

Wednesday Lessons

My boss just taught me about the Fair Housing Act of 1686. After that I taught him how to use a stapler to fix the hem on his pants.
I think it was a fair trade.

Just in Time for the Beach

It finally happened, my poor toe lost its nail last night. Which wasn't nearly as gross as I would have thought. In fact, I may have been slightly too enthralled by it all. My Papa Ondash would have been so proud.

Now here is the problem... I leave for a weekend at the beach in two days and can't go with 9 painted nails and one ugly toe. Do I cover it with a Nemo band-aid and call it a day? Paint the toe? Hide my feet in the sand?

Knowing me, I will probably have some wine and run around trying to show everyone my new freak show of a toe!

I will grow up one day, I promise!

Morning Trivia

Did you know that Starbucks has two logos right now... the new one is a bare-breasted, two-tailed mermaid, which Starbucks wanted to be as 'seductive as the coffee itself'. The other is their predominantly green logo of a mermaid encircled by the words “Starbucks Coffee.”

Only one will live on though... is it the sexed-up siren or the covered-up mermaid?

2 Points of Interest

1. It was exactly a year ago today that I got on a plane to Italy
2. I am officially no longer unemployed!!

And now back to the fashion...
